Aspirin
Mechanism of Action
Aspirin has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Inhibits platelet
aggregation and cause vasodilation, decreasing the likelihood of
thrombosis.

Indications
Acute onset cardiac chest pain
Initial drug prior to nitro administration

81 mg tablets (pre-pack, baby aspirin)

Onset & Duration
Onset: 1-3 min
Duration: 30-60 min

Doses and Administration
324 mg
Give 4 tablets by mouth
Patient should chew tablets

Patients must be >25 year of age

Precautions
Hypersensitivity to aspirin
History of GI lesions
May cause bronchial spasm in some asthma  patients
Do not give if patient has already taken aspirin

Pediatrics
No indication for pediatrics
