Mechanism of Action
Antagonizes cardiac toxicity in hyperkalemia associated with dialysis patients.
Reverses symptoms of Ca. Channel Blocker

Indications
Treatment of renal failure patients in the presence of cardiac arrest
Treatment of patients with calcium channel blocker overdose
Prophylactic treatment of patients with acute exposure to hydrofluoric acid

Onset & Duration
Onset: 1-3 min
Duration: 20-30 min

Doses and Administration
In cardiac arrest, 10 ml IVP for renal failure patients
In Calcium Channel blocker OD, 10 ml IVP
In Hydrofluoric Acid exposure, 4 ml (400 mg) IVP

Precautions
Venous irritation.
Burning, cellulitis, necrosis and skin sloughing following extravasation.
Venodilation, tingling sensation in extremities, bradycardia, cardiac arrhythmias,
decreased blood pressure, syncope or cardiac arrest with rapid IV injection
Must flush IV lines prior to administration of Sodium Bicarbonate

Pediatrics
For known Calcium Channel blocker OD
Dose: 0.1-0.2 ml/kg  very slow IVP
