Mechanism of Action
Natural catecholamine with both a- and b-adrenergic agonist
activity.
Can produce the following cardiovascular responses
Increased systemic vascular response
Increased systolic and diastolic BPs
Increased electrical activity in the myocardium
Increased coronary and cerebral blood flow
Increased strength of myocardial contraction
Increased myocardial oxygen requirements
Increased automaticity
Indications
Used SQ in the treatment of severe anaphylaxis.

Onset:
SQ 5-10 min
IV/IM 1-2 min
Duration: 5-10 min
Doses and Administration
Subcutaneous injection: 0.3-0.5 mg
Sublingual injection: 0.3-0.5 mg
Precautions
Never given IVP in the adult in a 1:1,000 concentration
May cause worsening of myocardial ischemia
May cause PVC's or Ventricular Tachycardia.
May result in undesired tachycardia.
Pediatrics
Given 0.3 mg SQ
Given endotracheally or IVP
