Mechanism of Action
Furosemide (Lasix) is a potent, rapid acting diuretic that inhibits the
reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the proximal tubule and loop of Henle. In
patients with pulmonary edema, it reduces venous return and venous pressure.
This effect is seen before the diuretic effect.
